Part three -
Continuing the return trip from Forestry to
North Fork. You will get popups when you
successfully pickup or setout a car, but you
are going to have to figure it out for
yourselves. Also only the mainline path is
dispatch controlled. It only gets you there.
You have to get in and out and find the
correct track where needed.
You have a 35mph
maximum speed restriction since you have
empties interspersed with loads. Also there is
a 15mph speed restriction in both Burkes and
Stockton Culverts, with a 5mph limit through
the loader there.
You are working
Burkes Finishing and Stockton
Culverts ..
see WO
Burkes - NOT
necessarily in the following
order ..
Clear the main
before switching these: Run them down the
stock track, then come back and put the
remainder of your cars on Finishing Siding.
Then switch the cars
SO Stock Cars on
Stock In
SO the Grain on
Stock Out and you will be told where to put
them.
SO the Supplies
Boxes on Stock Out and you will be told where
to put them.
Stockton - Cement
Hoppers on the back - Setout under the loader
5mph limit until
completely clear of loader
Baers, leave
engines on wye side of Baers siding. (Stay
between switches with engines)
Drop cars at
front of Baers siding right after switch
Your clearance
ends at the end of Baers Siding
There are many,
many gotchas in this, so if you have problems
read enclosed Hints file for additional help
Good Luck.

HINTS, TRICKS AND
GOTCHAS below: Don't read unless you have
problems or it will spoil the fun ;-)
GENERAL ITEMS:
Save often just
in case!
Don't forget to
tab for permission or you will have many 0
speed limits.
When re-coupling
with cars that are in the zero
zone, do not hit
them hard enough to back them up or, again you
will have a 0 speed limit
Did I mention to
save often just in case?
If you split a
switch ( have a car on a switch that is being
changed from another track by the engine )
your only recourse is to back up far enough -
sometimes with the entire train - to clear the
switch, set it correctly for all and proceed.
The only other recourse being, which I've seen
happen once or twice is totally unprototypical
and almost spooky. If you can't fix it any
other way (and on this one you can by
separating your cars from the switch in the
first place) you can always release the brakes
and notch 8. It will either derail, or the
cars will jump to the other track and follow
you out to the end of the siding. Once again,
this is only a last recourse
action ..
shouldn't be needed
on this one.
In most places
(except Burkes), you want to stay between the
switches if the path does not get you where
you are going.
Just in case I
forgot, save often!
When working the
front coupler, ease into the cars (1 mph)
until they bump, then wait a second for
everything to settle, back up slightly to set
the couplers, then you are free to go. To
uncouple, set the hand brakes on the cars to
be dropped, set you loco brake (on this one
anyway) to 45% or so, get notch 1 and slowly
release the loco. If you wait just a bit
between the above actions, usually there will
be no problems.
A Blow by Blow
account for Working Burkes: (I've tried 7 or 8
ways of doing it and for the most part, doing
it differently will award you with a permanent
red trying to leave Burkes).
1) Follow the
path onto Burkes Siding. I made it there at
roughly 13:01-13:02
2) Leave
everything but your first three engines past
the switch and right before the crossovers.
3) Back your
engines on the track to your left and leave
the third engine on the siding (almost on the
second going into the helper facility)
4) Go back and
EASE into the remainder of your train. Ask for
permission although it will be denied, however
it will give you a 20mph restricted (or
sometimes the original 50mph) rather than a 0
mph. If you have split the switch here, you
will have to back all the way out to the main,
just short of leaving the signal boundary
behind you.
5) Go forward
taking a left continually until you have the
cars destined for Burkes finishing siding.
(Take the wrong track and you will have an
extra five minutes or so of needless
switching) ;-) However, watch and when the
helper engines are on the same little stretch
of track (before the crossovers) you stopped
at previously, drop them and take your cattle,
grain and boxes down to the next switch. Drop
them, then runaround and go back to the
remainder of your consist on the center
siding.
6)
Pull them all the
way forward. This is where you need to split a
couple of the hoppers to keep them off the
crossover switches. There is room, but barely.
7) Leave
everything except the front engine, go forward
and back onto the track to your left.
8) Start working
the Burkes finishing track.
per (WO) Sometime
through this period, two separate AI should
come by and continue on. If they stop, you may
as well go back to a previous save since
you've made an error somewhere and you will
get a permanent red trying to leave.
SO
Stock Cars on Stock In
SO
the Grain on Stock Out and you will be told to
put them under the Grain loaders, opposite the
Supply track
SO
the Supplies Boxes on Stock Out and you will
be told where to put them. The first three
(Gardeners) go on the supply track,
the remaining, pull back to clear the
switch and leave them there.
9) After
completing the finishing track, go back and
get your third engine and put it in the engine
house as advised (per WO)
10( Now, go back
to get your train on the center track, asking
for permission, collect your train, asking
again for permission and you should be on your
way at normal speed if everything went
according to schedule.
Stockton - Cement Hoppers
on the back - Setout under the loader.
No tricks here except make sure you switch to
the correct track. I did it this way to give
you a fair warning of needing to reduce speed.
5mph limit into and until completely clear of
loader
Baers, before you
diverge, first leave the reefers inside the
switch boundary (although I usually got
permission to get them again when I moved them
back too far), the leave engines on wye side
of Baers siding right behind you after you
have crossed to the center track. (Stay
between switches with engines)
Go back and get
your reefers, etc., and then drop cars at
center of the siding ..
you will be told
where.
Stop when you get
to the end of the siding before joing the main
and the activity will end here
