This morning you will
be using GP38's 1011 and 1005 to take a variety of
loads and empties from Walton Yard to Hercules
Powder and Radford Army Ammunition Plant. Along the
way you will also pick up some empties and loads.
Your call sign will be westbound 1011.
Hercules Powder
receives loads of sulfur,
charcoal and potassium nitrate in a variety of
hoppers. The finished
product, gunpowder, is then shipped to Radford Army
Ammunition Plant.
Radford manufactures a
number of different types of ammunition primarily
for the Army. In addition to the loads of gunpowder
in hoppers received from Hercules Powder, Radford
will receive a variety of boxcars containing other
products such as shell casings, firing caps, etc.
Outgoing shipments of ammunition are usually in
boxcars.
This activity will end
at Belspring MOW where
you will meet the eastbound local. Options for
future activities include continuing on as a peddler
freight along the length of Wisconsin Central or
swapping trains with the eastbound local and
returning to Walton Yard to break up the consist for
future delivery.
