The early season orange
harvest is reaching a fevered pace in Florida.
Processing plants are swamped with Hamlin and Parson
Brown varieties, warehouses are at capacity. Shippers
are screaming for as much tonnage as as the NERR can
muster, to get oranges to the cold storage and
distribution facilities in the Midwest and Northeast.
NEPR018b FLO is part of a
series of work orders to represent different parts of
the NERR's traffic handling the Florida orange harvest.
NEEM018a FLO came first.
NEPR018c FLO is next
One of the Fairbanks-Morse
H16s that was hauling empty reefers from the East Metro
subdivision last night had a failed water pump. That
took all three engines down. Engineers are still
working to bring the other two engines back up, but they
keep cutting out, so East Metro dispatched your
Berkshire 2-8-4 and scrounged up some yard engines to
bring the crippled train on into Frederick. NERR lost
10 money-burning hours in getting this string of empties
down to Florida.
The PRRR subdivision didn't
have time to get more H16 power into Frederick, so
you're going to continue on to Hoodoo Pass with a
helper, where the PRRR will have replacement diesels
waiting. You're also hauling three hoppers to be set
out at Bodie.
The late hurricane that hit
along the east coast a couple of days ago caused
flooding in the East Metro Division. Over the PRRR
subdivision all that rain has turned to snow.
You'll have to
1.spot
the crippled H16s at Frederick Yard Maintenance Shop
2.pick
up some more empty reefers at Frederick
3. Spot the 3 hoppers at
Bodie
4. Then head on up to the
Pass.
Speed Limits as posted.
