The Alco PA is perhaps one of railroading's most classic locomotives. In 1946, the American Locomotive Company introduced this six-axle, 2,000hp passenger diesel. The PA produced the same horsepower as EMD E-series diesels, but did it with one only one engine, instead of two. The simplistic, yet classic, design made the PA a railfan favorite.

Unfortunately, the PA was cursed by a problematic engine, and by the early 1960s, the PAs were being sent to scrap dealers. Today, only four of the 248 PAs built survive. Two of these are currently being restored.
